Nicks Spaghetti and Steak House in Shacklefords has been a family owned and operated business for more than 40 years! Menu includes fresh ground beef and hand-cut steaks, liver and onions, multiple fresh seafood options and Italian fare. Lunch “boats” that come with a side include a softshell crab sandwich. Vast junior menu for kids 12 years and younger.

Dragon Run Brewing in Shacklefords serves award-winning craft beer and an On the River IPA series along with sandwiches, tacos, a crab melt pretzel, and a cinnamon sugar pretzel. A range of inexpensive options; open Thursday-Sunday.

Get the crab muffin at Diggs Seafood, 6570 E. Lewis B. Puller Memorial Highway in Mattaponi. Cash only and it’s $5.

Chow on po boys, mahi, crab cakes, and ample non-seafood options at the Blue Crab Restaurant at 620 Main St., in West Point. Where else does one say try the Brussel sprout appetizer?

Wind Vineyards at Laurel Grove, just over the county line in Essex, is the largest farm winery in Eastern Virginia producing 25 varieties of grapes on 37 acres. Check their event calendar for fun happenings ranging from live music to monster truck shows and more!

Scott’s Store at 2940 Walkerton Road may not look fancy, but don’t be fooled into thinking this is a gas station with only a store of essentials attached. Scott’s is a classic old-time general store with deli sandwiches and homemade desserts made fresh daily. Breakfast served, too.

Rayzway Express 4 is a locally-owned, locally-run convenience store featuring a full deli that’s open for breakfast and lunch, with a friendly staff who is happy to take your call-ahead catering orders. Located at 23481 The Trail, Little Plymouth, VA.

Lovell’s Place at 3180 King Williams Ave. in West Point, looks like a nondescript bar in a strip mall, but this local favorite is known as a hidden treasure with yummy sandwiches, standout fries, and hotdogs, and plentiful portions.

Courthouse Tavern Museum features historical books and artifacts of King and Queen County, children’s books, maps, postcards, and notecards in small museum shop.

The Exchange on Main represents a group of small business owners with handmade and local gifts under one 4,000 square-foot roof.
